Powder Springs Police Cadet Program
The Powder Springs Police Department's Cadet Unit #145 has been rebranded in 2023 and is now mandated by the Public Safety Cadets. The Cadet Program is for boys and girls between the ages of 14 and 20 who have an interest in law enforcement and may be seeking a career in a related field. The Cadets meet four times a month a month. Each Cadet has the opportunity to advance their rank through enthusiasm, attendance and overall participation in the program. Several Police Cadet alumni have obtained law enforcement careers or have made great impressions on college applications with letters addressed from the Chief of Police and city officials.
People Who Join
The young people who join the Police Department's Cadet program gain valuable leadership skills while being taught responsibility for others in their community. This is accomplished while having fun in a supportive atmosphere where self-discipline is encouraged. The Cadets are educated in law enforcement topics such as police ethics, criminal & traffic law, criminal procedure, public relations, how to direct traffic, and so much more. The Cadets also have an opportunity to be a part of a competition team that competes biannually in local and out of state competitions. Additional training includes firearm safety through means of airsoft, active shooter preparation, and first aid training.
Cadet Ride-Along
The Police Department has a Cadet "Ride-Along" program. Cadets are given the opportunity to "ride along" with patrol officers and experience what being on patrol is like. On special occasions such as parades or holiday events the Cadets play a main role as additional support for the Police Department. Cadets are issued uniforms representing their units and the Police Department.
