In its first meeting of 2020, the Powder Springs City Council led off the night’s action with three of its members taking their oaths of office. Mayor Albert Thurman and council members Patrick Bordelon and Patricia Wisdom are starting their second terms in their respective offices after being re-elected by voters in November.
After being voted on by his fellow council members, Councilman Henry Lust will serve as mayor pro-tem, an appointed position in which Lust will assume mayoral duties if and when Thurman cannot, such as during an absence.
Council members also passed a resolution appointing Kent Shelton to the Development Authority of Powder Springs and reappointing Sheila Marshal and Ra Barr. The three took their oaths of office later in the meeting.
In other council housekeeping matters, the council reappointed Kelly Axt as city clerk, while Richard Calhoun and/or David Hammock of GDCR Attorneys at Law will continue to serve as city attorney.
Due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, Jan. 20, during which city offices will be closed, the council’s next meeting will be held Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m. in council chambers.
